I just joined and been looking thru. the message in various topics and found the website to be very sterile and boring. Don't get me wrong, it's good that we have a forum for the Chub&Chaser but man!, the website content is very dry......

Any suggestion to jazz this up a little bit.......

Touchy! Constructive criticism is a good thing dude!. Instead of turning a blind eye, why don't we figure out what we can improve..... this is an open forum right? or opinion doesn't really count!

Absolutely agreed with panda. We should improve this forum, perhaps more interesting topic to be posted?

Dear Gaypanda,

Thank you so much for your comments. We really do appreciate everyone's feedback very much.

We do not have much "content" here because in order to become a content driven web site like Trevvy or Fridae, we would need to have a real staff. We are all volunteers here and lately, due to our own work commitments, we have found it difficult to spend time working on expanding this site.

If you have any specific suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact us or post it in the forum. And don't be discouraged by those who criticise you heartlessly. We do value constructive criticism and encourage it.

Thanks for the positive welcoming notes. Smile It's so easy to be negative......

Anyway, appreciates that there is no real staff, however the "look and feel" of the website it's quite corporate and serious. For a gay website, it would be nice to be more visual, humour and local-feel (it doesn't have to be filled with the usual "skin"). Maybe some cheeky sub-category titles and since this is a Singapore website, maybe some colourful use of Singlish to jazz things up a little bit. Non-PC intonation (but in a balance way) it's a great ice-breaker!. ;D

In today sterile and generic world, individulism is a real asset!!. I love gay Singapore for it's culture and diversity. At the moment, it just felt this is not reflected on this website. Without the tittle, this could be another countless gay websites from "another" country.

But seriously ... do we really need the cosmetic frills? So what exactly is singapore-gay-individualism ... sarong kebaya dragged chubs singing the lah-lor-leh? I like this site as it is ... nice and cosy, familiar and welcoming ... like an old cottage by the river bank surounded by hospitable villagers in the suburb. Everyone is true and real! Why must a gay site have all that 'jazzy' city life talk?

I remembered a couple of years back when Chubsg was first formalised ... we wanted a simple looking site where we can surf up in the office without nosey colleagues peeping from behind and only to catch us reading some unintended gay site. So ... the corporate and serious look-and-feel was decided.

Given the lack of resources and tight fundings ... I congratulate team chubsg for their good effort in giving a voice to our niche community! The WWW doesn't need another forgettable flashy site to blind others from our true existence ... lor!

This is a perfect example of how diverse our chub/cub/chaser community really is. But Fuschia is correct, the reason we try to maintain the less flamboyant look on our site is because it was strongly requested when we first set up this forum many years ago. Trust me...being such a flamboyant queen myself...this was tough but over the years, it seems to work in our favour.

What you write within your posts, of course, are always more of a reflection of your personality. Flowery for flamboyant guys like us...simple, straight forward copy for the more serious guys. Singlish for those who choose to use it, Queen's English for those of us who prefer sipping tea with our pinkies sticking out.

I think that we have grown to be all inclusive, open to anyone who wants to join or support our forum. In a sense, we have begun to achieve our goal to build a sense of community. Of course we hope that we can continue to develop this more, and with all your help, we will all succeed.

There is a uniqueness about this place
No matter which poise or no-poise
Whether Eng or BEng or beng
The distinctiveness is unmistakable
Its just so natural!
This place has Darwinian wilderness

I like.... hee hee..... Smile

I partly see the reasoning behind the look and feel of this website after fushcia and fatsoinsg replies. And also the protectiveness of it's member. It's a good achievement - something that I never doubted. But let's strive to take this to the next level - change and variety is a spice of life.

To Fuschia comment on the cosmetic frills - balance your arguement, right?, I'm not talking about flashy website but a warmer approach that are less generic or sterile. In the west, the argument is usually the other way round where there is just too much flesh on display.

I have just migrated back to Asia after a long spell in UK/US (14 years) in a corporate environment (hence the sterile comment) and (I guess) is craving & loving the Asia culture becuase it's so unique and rich in flavour. So what wrong if "sarong kebaya" or "lah-lor-leh" is the local culture. I see this more of an asset.

Good luck guys.

hmm... exotica exotica! would you like to have coffee, tea or me? And our clueless foreign friend grin and replied ... you with a dash of gin would be nice!

Alas, it's too close to heart to peel away from famililarity and too painful to step off our comfort zone ... do what's best to make yourself feel good! Its our home after all ...

well this is a posters' paradise and driven by his own opinion ... he who writes sets the tone! while readers just ... read!

Hi there again Pandabear,

Nice to meet another "quitter" who's returned to the homeland. (WAH! I sound so bloody patriotic!) I returned to Singapore about five years ago after almost 20 years in the US and I do understand your statement about craving and loving the Asian culture. After losing my twang (which I never even knew I had until some kids teased me) I have become more Lian than Beng, with a distinct taste for the exotic flavours of Nasi Lemak and Nasi Bryani...and the waistline to proove it too.

I do hope that you will join us in "spicing" up this forum and bear with us for a while until we have time to update the look. Meanwhile...type lah, dun be so shy and don't pray pray so much in this one section only. Prance around, show us what you are made of!!! Get the ball rolling!

Thanks so much and I do hope you become one of our good Kakis here.

Fatso

Guys,

You seriously need to look at doing something for this portal.
Look at Hi5.com / Facebook / Fridae / Pandaish and some other websites and you find that our beloved Chubsg portal is very old.

We need to add more features to this like a section for photo sharing or events for chubs to attract more interest into this site.

Maybe allow photos for the trade / buy and sell section so that people can see the goods.
..and more promotion for your site.

Cheers.
Gene
